Do you ever have one of those days where it’s like 4 pm, you are in the office and have a bunch of deadlines but no energy at all? This happens to me quite a few times in the week and it is incredibly frustrating. You want to be productive but your body and mind are just not cooperating. Well, I have the solution for that.

I’m talking about a smoothie that is no ordinary smoothie, it will revolutionize your low energy afternoons and help you get through those deadlines. Whether it is at school or at work. You won’t need a cup of coffee ever again!

What’s in this energizing madness?

Cocoa Beans

These little gems will make you happy! You heard that right, a few of these in your smoothie will make you feel goood. Why? These beans contain dopamine, phenylethylamine (PEA) and serotonin, all of which are used to promote positive mental health and moods. If this is already not a good enough reason to put them in everything, they are also the best source of antioxidants as they contain up to ten percent antioxidant concentration levels. Blueberries are often said to be a great source of antioxidants, however, while domestic blueberries have 32 antioxidants, and wild blueberries have 61, cocoa beans have 621!

Make sure to buy organic and GMO-free Cocoa Beans!

Avocado

Avocados are an excellent source of antioxidants that may help slow aging and prevent certain cancers and heart diseases. They are high in folate which also helps protect your heart and may guard you against strokes. Studies have shown that avocados can lower cholesterol, guard against eye disease, help fight cancer, prevent breast cancer and has been shown to inhibit prostate cancer. Avocados promote the absorption of certain nutrients such as lycopene and beta carotene.

Avocado is a fruit that is native to Mexico and stems back to 10,000 BC. It thrives in warmer climates but is grown locally in California.

Bananas

Well, bananas just go well with everything. I barely make a smoothie without adding at least one frozen banana to it (it’s basically what I use for ice).  Bananas are one of the most consumed fruits in the world, they help with blood pressure and reduce cancer risk. Bananas are rich in a mineral called potassium. This mineral is important as it helps maintain fluid levels in the body and regulates the movement of nutrients and waste products in and out of cells. Potassium also helps muscles to contract and nerve cells to respond. Bananas rock!

Raw Vegan Protein Powder

I also love to add some protein to pretty much all of my smoothies. A smoothie with protein keeps me full for hours and is also a great option before a work out session. It gives me the energy I need to get through those sit ups and abs and it helps me with muscle building and recovery too. I only use Sun Pyramid Health’s raw vegan protein, because it is organic, healthy and also a meal replacement.

How do I prepare it?

4

Exact ingredients are the following:

  • Half Avocado
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 tsp of honey
  • Few drops of vanilla
  • 10 Cocoa beans
  • 1 scoop of Raw Vegan Protein
  • 2 cups of almond milk

Process:

  • Soak the cocoa beans in water for about 10 minutes, after this they will be really easy to peel.
  • Put the frozen bananas, the almond milk and cocoa beans in the blender and blend first for about 20 seconds.
  • Put the rest of the ingredients and blend until smooth.

This will be enough for about two glasses of smoothie in case you want to share with someone, if you don’t then just drink the other glass later!

That’s it, now you just have to pour, sip and let the energy hit your body.
